What is Periodontitis?
Periodontitis affects up to 80% of people and often develops without noticeable symptoms. Its consequences can be far more serious than mild discomfort or even tooth loss. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for your overall health.
Periodontitis is an infectious disease, but it develops under certain conditions:
· Inadequate daily oral hygiene
· Plaque and tartar buildup
· Misaligned bite
· Gum tissue injury
· Genetic predisposition
· Gum itching
These factors allow harmful microorganisms to multiply in the gum tissue, destroying the periodontium and penetrating deeper into the gums. If left untreated, periodontitis can lead to serious systemic health issues.
Possible consequences include:
· Tooth loss
· Acute inflammation and abscesses
· Risk of systemic diseases: stomach ulcers, microthrombi, cardiovascular disease, septic endocarditis, kidney damage

Periodontitis Treatment at UMA CLINIC
Our comprehensive treatment combines systemic and local therapy. The first step is a thorough examination to determine the cause of periodontitis. Diagnosis can also be confirmed during professional oral hygiene with periodontal screening.
Treatment at UMA CLINIC includes:
1. Removal of old prosthetic constructions
2. Targeted X-rays and, if necessary, panoramic imaging
3. Professional oral hygiene
4. Filling out a periodontal chart
5. Scaling and root planing – removal of plaque and tartar, and polishing of the tooth root
6. Surgical treatment, if needed
Depending on the severity, our specialists select the most effective treatment method. The goal is to thoroughly clean affected surfaces from biofilm, plaque, and deposits where harmful microorganisms thrive.
Important: Scaling and root planing are usually completed in 1–2 visits within 24 hours. After inflammation is controlled, the patient must strictly follow oral care recommendations from the dentist.
After successful treatment, UMA CLINIC provides maintenance therapy, a check-up after six weeks, and recommends regular dental control every three months.
