When to Consider Endodontics

There are two main causes of root canal problems: infection and mechanical damage (cracks, displacement, or knocked-out teeth).

In cases of infection, accurate diagnosis is critical. Many endodontic issues develop without symptoms – for example, pulpitis is painless in about 40% of cases. Accurate diagnosis and timely treatment greatly increase the chances of saving the tooth.

At UMA CLINIC, we perform:

·        Cold tests

·        Targeted X-rays, or cone-beam CT (CBCT) if needed

·        Microscope examination

This approach ensures the most precise assessment of the affected areas.

How the Treatment Works?

Depending on the complexity, endodontic treatment can take one or several visits. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia, ensuring a completely painless experience.

Steps include:

1.     Removal of infected tissue and pulp

2.     Thorough disinfection of tooth cavities

3.     Filling the cleaned root canals with special material and sealing the cavity with a filling

Hot and cold gutta-percha is the latest technology in root canal filling. It is:

·        Biocompatible with living tooth tissues

·        Removable if needed

·        Perfectly seals all canals and branches, preventing pathogen penetration

If necessary, the endodontist can refer the patient to another specialist for restoration or reconstruction of the treated tooth.

Post-Treatment Monitoring
After endodontic treatment, control X-rays are recommended at 6, 12, and 24 months. In cases with a large infection source, follow-up may continue for several years.

Important: Treatment outcomes strongly depend on the health of the periodontium – the tissues surrounding the tooth. Therefore, it’s recommended to visit a periodontist before starting root canal treatment.
